February furtle

oh goodness my pictures are all back to front! but i suppose that is art imitating life? Apologies normally this is a safe place away from the world outside but no where feels like a safe space at the moment.

I will do a full write up on this as a separate post but wanted to highlight here this Hexie project pouch, pattern by Vintage Sewing box I aodred making this for a lovely chum who is heading back south to be nearer family. I will miss Jo so much but it is adieu not goodbye! It was also a good test of my new bionic eyes!

Im in Lucy Engles fabric mystery club!!! how fab is this bundle? this is the first bundle for this year just the burst of bright summery gorgeousness i needed!
I put together the first 4 rows of my Blossom Jane quilt using the black sashing. I was worried it might overwhelm the blocks but i think it works, it is small enough to separate them without overwhelming them?
This was my big finish for the month! the lion floral big cats pattern seen here with his mate the panther. I love doing these patterns but hobbylanding, and am totally over the moon with the way he has turned out.

And thats it for February, here is hoping March is a good month!

Alice Caroline SOS 2021

I wrote last year about the two quilts I made last year for the annual Alice Caroline quilt SOS.

I loved reading the blog which Alice Caroline wrote on delivering the quilts to their new homes.

https://www.alicecaroline.com/quilt-sos-safely-delivered-to-new-homes/

When we put these quilts out into the world they live lives of their own. I always hope the new owner feels the love and care put into them and it gives them some comfort.

January furtle 2022

Well the days are sloooooowly beginning to get longer! And fence posts always remain a constant.
So what have we been up to in January? Well putting together some of last years stuff into finishes! And starting new BOMs, below are the blocks for the quiet play BOM in the garden. I’m using all liberty fabrics. Light background for the lotus sashing block fillers and dark background for the main blocks.

Whoops! This picture is out of place, I am finishing off the mandalas to go with each month of the spider rose temperature blocks from 2021. Carina had quite a few mandala longs last year so I am using them up.
Here are the main blocks for the quiet play Bom!
And a mock up of the temper spider webs with their mandalas, a few still to do.
It’s been a funny old month. I should have been at a quilting retreat with chums but that got cancelled yet a flipping gain ….. hey ho, one day it will happen! But the days are brightening and spring will come, just need to be patient.

Grans hoose

Wow this brings back memories. I was chatting on messenger to a relative, her mam (my mams cousin) passed away this year and she has been looking through old photos. This was taken in my grans sitting room. My gran isn’t in the picture but I know it’s her sitting room because of the maiden hair fern on the left on top of a display cabinet. Also from the view across the road. The lady in the purple top is Beldie, a cousin of my grans. The lady sitting next to her is Elsie, such a lovely warm lady, I remember her so well. When you were sick Elsie would give you a ‘nae weel’ (unwell) baggie. It was a bag of comics, sweeties, colouring pencils, just things to keep you occupied and comfort you. Me and my relative spoke about my gran, you were never hungry in her house! Ainsley remembered the butter biscuits (always with extra butter on them) mellow birds coffee, all things which resonate with my childhood. Such warm times.

Linen and threads sew along

Well this was such a fun thing to do. Fox and rabbit designs do a free monthly cross stitch along. This years theme was talavera. This is my finished piece. It’s been a constant companion in the evenings this year.

Gartmore quilt

Awww a bittersweet one this … the group of chums who go to Gartmore ‘quilts friends’ made blocks for us to make a charity quilt. I offered to put them together. That was almost exactly 2 years ago … we had a weekend already paid for and have arranged at least two new dates for it as it was cancelled in 2020. The re arranged dates have been cancelled too, the latest was supposed to be in January 2022. But I know we will get there, just not now. So I put the quilt together and it will go to siblings. And hopefully feel all the love which went into it.

I used up some meterage from the kaleidoscope summer sale, I had such a lovely trip there with quilty doings. Such a fun day.
