Cogs and thistles

No 4 on my Q4 FAL list was this little beauty started at a lovely class with Jenny Haynes - Pappersaxsten - Cogs and Thistles, such a cute little quilt and so many happy memories of a lovely weekend at the class with her.

Book nerd quilt

A booknerd quilt! how appropriate for a librarian! this was finish no 5 from my Q4 proposal list I have been picking away at this all  year mostly at the Killearn sewing days, lovely pattern and great to use up nice big prints too.

 Bit of a Frankenstein backing but its still pretty, can you see the elephants?

Vintage Home

I have been making this quilt for a while, well by my standards anyway! I started it at the Gartmore retreat in January 2019, it got left for a while then picked up and then i realised i just needed one final push! and so it went, number 1 in my Q4 list is now done and dusted! ready to be donated to my chums Sheenas quilt drive for the charity she works for - Link living.

I was so delighted with the backing i think I have had this for well over a year, i got it at the FOQ probably in 2018 specifically for this quilt. Writing 2018 seems really weird!

this is as Christmassy as it gets!

I have never enjoyed Christmas, not from a very young age. Many reasons I think, in recent years anniversaries of bereavement in December have made it even more challenging. I'm not alone I know many struggle at this time of year.

This year I am trying to be more accepting of the season, me being in a Miserable budsmam bubble isn't going to change anything 😂 so with the help of a fab pappersaxsten pattern - spruced up, I made a Christmas tree.

Small pieces

Honestly blogger!!! this is from 2016 why you put  it here! i  was updating it!
I had a major breakthrough on my jelly roll quilt this weekend. It's the square dance quilt form Pam and Nicky Lintotts Two from one jelly roll book.
I wrote about this for my first WIP Wednesday post. At that point I was still slogging my way though putting together the little nine patches.

I got these finished the previous weekend so this weekend was spent putting them all together, there are 146 of the little blighters they are 3 inches square. Laying out was fun, but I daren't breath when they were on my very flimsy design wall (basically a bit of flannel hanging from a curtain pole)

I managed to get one corner sewn together, I am usually very poor at working with small pieces, they annoy me and require far more attention to detail than I can usually muster, but this time I was more patient and am pretty chuffed with progress so far.

so all in all a very productive weekend am looking forward to finishing this one

one last finish!!!

I didn't know if i would manage this one in time but look! i did! This was no.16 on my Q3 list the handpieced sampler BOM by Carolyn Foster for Todays Quilter. I love every minute of this which has been with me for 12 months now. I didnt hand piece it all but some of it :-) it was QAYG so i used the opportunity to use up some large scale prints on the back. Loving it! it will go to Siblings together.

Not a lone star!

OK this is not a liberty lone star .... hands up who read the deadline for the Alice Caroline quilts incorrectly? .... yup thought it was November ....
OK i promised three so i will deliver 3. Dont tell the minis but i raided Mini Buds scrap pack hoard and had great fun putting together an improv quilt top. I made sure they were all the same height but didnt worry about width, this meant no seam aligning just sew the rows together.

There was something so so liberating about just going for it,no measuring no aligning, just sew sew sew

 and then WHOOOOOOOOF you have a quilt top.

Quilt top making was aided by rewatching the Sting, Newman and Redford at their sublime best, yes i know Butch and Sundance yadda yadda i do love it too but this has a special place in my heart.

So fly off to your new home my quilt. I dont think i will know your life but i hope you bring love and comfort to your new owner.

A finish! no 6 on my Q3 FAL list

I love liberty thats a well known fact! i have been lucky enough to get a fairly big stash of it, a lot through various road trips to standfast and barracks to pick up their seconds bargains. So many happy memories in those trips. I am still working my way through those meters and meters of fabric. I also signed up to many liberty stash building clubs. All this means I am very privileged position. Alice Caroline, every year runs an SOS quilt drive for children's villages, there is a quite specific size required which results in quite a long thin quilt. So i am always on the look out for patterns which will  fit. I knew that Sarah Ashfords up and away quilt would be perfect for this. Along with the Fairy Tale Castle quilt I could imagine children flying away in the hot air balloons to the Fairy Tale castles :-). My one and only scoobs, quilt holder extraordinaire was away on his epic trek so i save this up for him coming home. I wanted to give three quilts this year and i just managed it! 

right, I come downstairs to see this waiting for me over the balcony!

and here he IS!!!!! my scoobs with my up and away quilt, lord the light was bad that day but i needed to get these posted, so you make do with what you have.

So we then attempted to show all 3 together ....

 OK these were the ones where i almost wet myself when i saw them !!!! Oh my scoobs i do love you ever so much my quilt holding soul mate :-)
