Love and kisses - Alice Caroline SOS 2021

And thats a wrap!!! Phew, squeaking in at the last minute is my second quilt for the 2021 Alice Caroline this year. This is the love and kisses quilt from the Liberty book by Jenni Smith, gorgeous book which Mark gave me for Christmas last year.

I made 54 of the 8.5 inch love and kisses blocks, great way to use up bigger scraps. A grey Louden was used for the background. This is some of the remainder of the fabric from one of my foraging journeys to Standfast and Barracks when they sold liberty seconds. So many happy memories of those trips.
You know me, organisation is key 😂

Lots of opportunity for funky fabric combinations.

At times it was a slog, I wont lie, I shouldnt have picked such a big project for the last SOS quilt, I think the fact that the KELs quilt was so quick gave me a false sense of security.

I gave myself some goals and deadlines to meet, this helped.

I love the quilt, and hopefully the recipient will too.

Furtling and finishalonging Sept 2021

Well well well its the end of September 😳 sheesh when oh when did we get here? I dunno, time soup, it all just feels like time soup.
Anyhoo. Here we are so what happened in September? Well I work in Higher Education and we did the whole return to campus thing, in the middle (virus not gone away!) of a Global Pandemic, so you can just build your own picture of the stress levels.
Hey ho, back to crafting! I am Sheldon (from Big Bang) I know this and embrace it but it means that when the Finish Along insta account goes AWOL in the middle of the finish along I get twitchy, do I still post its not completed for the year (STRESS!) i can do with incomplete things. So I decided to wrap it up with the furtle and include my FAL Q3 list in here.
So thats the Q3 list, poor Blossom Jane is still languishing but she gets a few blocks done every now and then thats as much as i can do just now.
Garden Trellis is waiting to be long armed, binding is all done on that. Oh Michael Powell Cross stitch is done - hoorah!, Hexagon sewing case, yup am on it, Alice Caroline well that features below, all the others still have to get off the starting block but we will get there!
So above is my 2nd quilt for Alice Caroline SOS this year, I can only commit to 2, i decided to make a love and kisses quilt from the lovely Jenni Smith Quilting with liberty book, great way to use up scraps.
You know me, its all about the organising, cutting for the blocks was the main chore so i did most of that in one go, all set up for chain piecing!
I did do one blossom Jane block! Making a start on row E, i do love this crane fabric from Japan Crafts
And here is the Michael Powell cross stitch from the Q3 FAL list a lovely chum found this lurking in her sewing room and knew i love his kits so much so she gave me this one to do, so lovely. They are such a satisfying make.
The temperature spiders wen embroidery carries on, below is up to August
And here is where i am at for September.
It’s great seeing the days come alive with colour, I am making a mandala to go along with each month. All of these patterns from Carina Envoldsen Harris - Carina Craft blog on insta (she made the free spiders web temperature pattern too)
I have made 5 so far, love these little ones, I love picking the colours for each month, below is an autumnal month obviously!

I think thats it for this month. Fingers crossed life will calm down a bit …. But goodness knows when!

Lovely Lou from flip flop fabric shop!

Lou from the flip flop fabric shop is super lovely, when I ordered fabric from her she sent along a whole heap of pretty fabric to make charity quilts with, I decided that a simple block layout was best to show off this sea themed fabric. It will head off to Linus very soon! Panda backing from Sarah Edgar pretty fabrics, sent via Trudi Wood.

New England Motel

Panda backing for the win!! So this is the New England Motel quilt, a fab free pattern from Brimfield Awakening. A great scrap buster, my layout is not the same as the original cos I didn’t read the pattern properly 😂😂 thee should be half hexies at the end of every alternate row which offsets the full hexies. I will definitely do this pattern again so will try the original layout. This was finish no 7 on my finish along list q2. Very happy with it. The panda backing came via Trudi Wood, dontated for charity quilts by Sarah Edgar pretty fabrics and trims.

FAL 2021 Q2!

and off we go for Q2 of the 2021 FAL, and yes I know I know its not on blogs any more! But I like to have it here too as well as on IG.

No 1 - Blossom Jane, I’m really keen to get cracking on this, I have made good progress but need to make more!

No 4 - yes I know look blogger jumbled up my pictures and I cant be bothered getting them in the right order! So no 4 is a selvage quilt.

No 9 is a liberty he is tile quilt for the Alice Caroline SOS project.

No 5, well when you have super lovely chums who give you fabrics to use for charity quilts it would be roode not to put them on the FAL list! Im still deciding on this one, but a disappearing 9 or 4 patch might be an idea?
no. 6 in the same vein! the lovely Lou from Flip flop fabric shop sent me a jolly bar and a charm pack for charity quilts, so I am happily sewing these together.
No 8 - I have had a pattern for a hexie sewing case for a while and when i get my cataract surgery done i will be able to see to EPP a bit more, and I cant think of better fabric than liberty for that.
no 10 - well there is a smidge of liberty left over from the garden trellis quilt ... yes just a smidge! so it will become another Alice Caroline SOS quilt
No 3, Michael Powell Cross stitch
No 2 - Garden Trellis quilt, all ready to be longarmed!

and thats it, lets see how Q2 goes!
