Farmers

Good grief, when did this happen ..... the farmers 30s quilt is finally finished .... this was no 2 on my Q2 FAL list and lets face it, this one has been on every FAL list for FOREVER!!!! It got sent off to the lovely Cath for Longarming and she did her usual amazing job on it.

A weekend at the cinema

 

Ive learned a lot this weekend, one of the main things is that I cannot abandon projects but hey I knew that anyway, I'm pretty stubborn! this farmers wife 30s quilt is slowly very very slowly nearing completion and this block below almost broke me, not just y seams but multiple y seams in one seam if you know what I mean ... my photography is shocking but hey, you get the gist!

I also learned that I need to stop living in my mind so much, making up stories of how life is going to pan out, I don't have a crystal ball and the future is not written yet. I can make up as many stories as I want about my health, about my job but none of it is written. I should know that the world can turn on a sixpence. start living more mindfully, in the moment.

I went to see three films this weekend! great fun. I have started a new "thing" I get popcorn and frozen yoghurt from Marks and Spencer to take in with me, half the price of cinema snacks and a lot healthier.

Mind you I totally blew that today by going to a local baker for 90 pence worth of chips and a cup of tea :-) I had great fun walking along the canal back to my car eating chips and drinking tea.

I remember one of the lines from the Avengers Infinity war which I saw on Friday - "there are 41,567 possible endings" I need to remember that and stop trying to predict them.

I also learned that lovely messages come out of the blue when you least expect them but need them most. Thank you :-)

 Oh this was a challenge but such fun in the end.

I did love making this so much, I will admit that the block with the 16 Y seams almost broke me 😂😂 but hey I learned so much with this quilt, and coming back and looking at it reminds me what an achievement it was. It looks so much brighter than I remember too. I quilted it myself on a long arm at beechwood, this was the first time I used a commercial long arm, great fun! I showe it at the stitch gathering that year.

Falling in love again

I have totally fallen in love with the Farmers Wife quilt along. I did manage to do three blocks last week, two fairly easy and one more tricky one, but, if I stick to the templates and don't rush at it, I seem to end up with some pretty accurate blocks, now how did that happen :-)

Farmers wife and being organised

I seriously need to get organised, use my time more productively. I have stalled with the poor farmers wife quilt along, I have about 35 wee blocks done, not insubstantial but still only about a quarter of the way through. How do I fit these into my already insane schedule? I figure if I can get some cut out, maybe about four cut out at a time then I can use the half hour in the morning when I used to walk Bud to get them done, if I aim to do two a week I could get another 30 done by Christmas, I would be well over half way then. Anyhoo, here are some pictures of my finished blocks to try and inspire me.

This weeks Farmers wife

I have been a bit of a lazy mare these past few weeks with pecious little quilting being done. Well a bit of ill health for an excuse.
I decided to get my act together for the Farmers wife quilt, i printed out all the templates and glued them to cardboard (the amazon wrapping was great for this, i seem to have been order a lot from amazon recently :o) so i cut them all out, organised them, I am a librarian remember! and so now am all set to stonk through the rest of the squares, well thats the theory anyway, along with all the other quilting which needs doing.
So here are the latest two.

Farmer's wife

I have finaly succumbed to the Farmer's wife quilt along ... the thinking is that the 111 6 inch blocks will take me the next three months to do and so see out my current illness. Well thats the thinking anyway :0) I am trying to use my time to perfect my technique and doing things small has never been a good point of mine so this will really tax me, but hopefully in a good way.
There is a flickr group and a yahoo group set up for this quilt based on the book by Laurie Aaron Hird. I belong to both and they are a fantastic resource of help and inspiration. The book took letters from 1920s farm wifes and built a quilt around them.
I am doing this quilt scrappy, still trying to use up my scraps ... here are a few pictures, I am up to no 17 at the mo, the flickr stream show all of them up to date.
