Transatlantic community quilt

Well this is lovely! My first block for the transatlantic community quilt since long covid, it was fabulous working with liberty again ♥️

Rainbow paisley mandala

 We have a finish!! An embroidery finish 😊 

The pattern is rainbow paisley mandala by Carina craft blog.

I love Carinas patterns and this was no exception.  

One thing this did cement was that I find it really difficult using solvy, it's great to print out onto etc but the extra layer makes it really more challenging to pull the needle and thread through.

This will go into this year's embroidery book 😊

Sashiko stars

Ta dah!!! OK this numpty got her dates mixed up and thought she had a whole extra week to make this .... Anyhoo I was determined to get this done for the Alice Caroline SOS I have been giving to it for years now and didnt want to miss one.

so I got a wiggle on and got the whole blessed thing quilted, bound and washed in a day 😳 Not saying I could do that again but boy it was intense!!!!

The backing was pieced, all done in liberty quilting cotton

I loved making the pattern I chose, Sashiko stars by Ankas Treasures, such a great pattern

When making it I went through quite a few layouts, I didnt have enough of any one fabric for the star bits so I chose two pink colours one darker and one lighter.

I made 2 blocks in each main block colour, wasnt sure how to lay them out, but ended up with this layout

This was how much of the star patterns I had left!!!! I was a bit stressed I was going to have to do some improv but it all worked out.

this was such a good pattern to make, really easy to chain piece, so well written

I always do some test blocks! these turned out perfectly

Great pattern despite the slightly frantic end! will definately make again.

In the Garden SAL

 

Oh blimey lots of last minute posts to fill in gaps all for the f!ettle and accountability! this was a fab SAL from Quiet Play - in the garden, I made it all in  Liberty Fabrics, used up a lot some with great memories of Standfast and Barracks trips etc! this will go to Alice Caroline quilt SOS for 2022 

Budsmams Garden Trellis quilt

It's now finished and here is the tale!

Well where to start!!! I adored the Garden Trellis quilt pattern ever since I saw it in Todays Quilter and the designer, Deirdre Bond Abel (hat creek quilts) is just so lovely. I decided that I wanted to make it in capel, well its not like I dont have enough of it!! So I persuaded Mini Mini bud to let me loose on the capel box of love and away we go!

One of the main things putting me off starting it was that it has four main appliqué blocks, all very pretty but appliqué is not my strong point. But i had a rest day from the University and i decided since it was a ‘free day’ that i would use it to start this project and just DO it.

I used the wash away applique fabric recommended by the pattern writer DeirdeBond Abel and it worked a treat. Beautifully long armed by Cumbrian Longarmer I adore it! 

 

Love and kisses

 

I need another quilt for the Alice Caroline sos for 2021. I have always tried to make 3 but I just cant do that this year, two will have to do.

I had a trial block from the transatlantic love and kisses quilt left over so I decide to work around that and make a love and kisses quilt. Super quilt block from the Quilting with Liberty book by Jenni Smith.

I had a few meters of Louden left from the standfast and barracks haul so that will be the background fabric. The rest is just cut from scraps so far trying to use them up.

I had a fairly good run at it this weekend, but am scaling back my ambitions! It’s gone from a 6 by 9 row quilt to a 5 by 7 row quilt with borders 😂

Kels SAL

Ta dah!!! Here we go! Finish no 9 for q2 of the finish along, well it’s not the 9th finish but was no 9 on the list. I committed to making 2 quilts this year for the annual Alice Caroline SOS quilt drive, they have a very particular size quite rectangular and long so it’s always good to find a pattern which fits this perfectly. When I saw the Kels pattern by Jenny Haynes, Pappersaxsten I knew it would be perfect! I made 2 of the blocks and that was the perfect size for this quilt.

Making the quilt was great fun, I am not used to using such large pieces of fabric so this was good learning and practice. Jenny had a class which was also good to help with the piecing.

The backing was also liberty , i AMA till using up all the fabric I bought on the trips to stand fast and barracks! Those were such fun trips!

 

This fabric below is a favourite and many folks commented that they liked it too.

Whoops!! Someone was not happy I was using capel 😂😂

 Another fun project and I do love the Alice Caroline sos quilt drive every year, just one more to make for this years drive.
