1st of the 8 charm pack quilts!

 So! When I was at FOQ last year I may have splurged on charm packs .... I do love a charm pack! I have 8 patiently waiting for their turn, well 7 now I have used this one! Its the fig tree one on the right in the picture above.

The pattern is splashdown by 'A few scraps' Please be sure to download the ammended  version (its says its version 2) the original had a little cutting error. Its a great pattern though! I was pretty pleased with this layout.

But there was a bit of a slip between the layout and the sewing machine it appears!!! I spotted the errors below so had to do some emergency surgery!

But all was well!

Gifted charm pack quilt

 Well the weather here has been awful ... what does awful weather mean??? It means a quilt making fenzy!!!! I do always like to start the year with some charm pack quilts, they are quick and easy to whip up and a very satisfying make. I love making mine with HSTs its quick simple and gives you a variety of layouts. Also clearly perfect angles make them so much easier without all the marking down the center.

I started with the one above, it was gifted by a chum who has obviously had it in her collection for a while!

Add in a FQ or 2 and away we go!!

There were a few OOPS along the way with placement etc but eventually we got there! another cute one to go to Linus

First finishes of 2023!

Well!!First finishes of 2023! I had 3 charm packs ti wanted to use up so here they are these will all go to Linus. Above is Picking Petals quilt by Carried away quilting. I used a charm pack from Leicin called Memoire a Paris.

Above is the Marian Barn quilt by Fresh dew drops. I used a Zen Chic charm pack for this one.

Above is the Moda Love pattern, I've already made this in a layer cake size. I used a charm pack called Effies Garden for this one.

So how cute is the backing??? Its an IKEA duvet cover, this was the pillow case which came with it. Love it will need to buy more!

 

Little Linus quilt

I got a panel in a scrap bag from sewhot, perfect to whip up a little linus quilt with additional of 2 fat quarters 😊

When your project Linus co-ordinator puts out a plea for quilts then what do you do? Well you delve into your stash chop up into 5 inch squares and whip up some cosy quilts thats what you do! when you have fab fabric then you dont really need a fancy pattern do you 😊

3 quilts from a layer cake 🤣

 Oh look at the concentration on this face!! Poor Scoobs, we are not having the best of weeks to be honest but hey when life gives you lemons etc! 

We are having to isolate because Scoobs has been home to visit family yea! But also hmmmm, he wanted to isolate because he was scared of taking omicron back home, so thats what we do. So what do you do with a week in the sewing room! You make quilts! Loads of them. First up is a layer cake set of quilts. 

My lovely chum Kim gifted me 3 layer cakes to make charity quilts with, I said she was lovely! So this is from the first one, it’s Mamma Said Sew by sweet water.

A fantastic range of text black grey and red prints. The first quilt i wanted to make was this one murmuration, a pattern for Moda by Chez moi. I love the way the blacks and greys fade with the raspberry  giving it a solid surround.

But there was quite a lot of the layer cake left , enough to make this! Splashdown  a pattern by Christina Camelli. I use 30s repro pink kitties for the background.

I had enough of the panda backing fabric kindly sent on by Trudi Wood, I used it for the splashdown and the teeny tiny quilt at the top of this post.

For the murmuration quilt i used some of the meterage of  liberty seconds form Standfast and Barracks

I was feeling a bit miserable isolating from Scoobs, posted heaps in my stories and loved the conversations with folks commenting, fair cheered me up.

I made a boo boo and only noticed when i posted the story!

It was fun and kept me sane, OK not the best christmas ever but not a bad one. And siblings and linus got loads of quilts! Thats a wind.

Disappearing 9 patch

 Using up lots of charm packs! here is my wonderful scoobs again. This was a charm pack purchased years ago, its good to use them all up and get them off to linus.

Charm pack quilts for Linus

 Like I said many many times, i have an inherent weakness for charm packs!!! so I made them a feature of my last finish along list. for finish no 7 i simply wanted one charm pack quilt, but hey i got 3!!!

I had two charm packs of the same fabric line bought from a destash so I put them together using my clearly perfect angles which i had put on my sewing machine for the hunters star quilt. I simply made a bazillion hsts then started laying them out from the center outwards. I didnt have enough to do one final round so i used those hsts to make a second smaller quilt for Linus. Bonus!!!

I mentioned that i have been meeting up with a chum at Kaleidoscope fabrics I do want to support them so try to buy something every time we go, they have a great sale table and often have meters at greatly reduced prices. I bought some of this big blousy floral, perfect for backing!! poor scoobs he doesnt look too happy there does he!!! I think it was getting a bit nippy at that point.

I said I got three quilts! well the third one was a leader and ender project, I simply took another charm pack and sewed the blocks together, bonus extra linus quilt!!!

It was a bit cold for me too taking all the pictures 😀

Hunters star quilt

 OK I had meant to squeak these in yesterday but the day ran away with me then there was gin and cava and port .... then it all got a bit blurry!!! I dont normally drink at hogmanay, but hey this year has been diffrent, very very different!

Right so there was my usual end of year flurry of finishes, and yes i know i put these in the furtle post but they need a separate post of their own, dont ask why they just do!

So lets start with the hunters star one! This was finish number 6 on my Q4 finish along list.

I was so lucky in 2020 to win a gorgeous FQ bundles from Morris textiles, lovely Leisa shipped them all the way from America! how lovely was that!

I waited until i found exactly the right pattern for it, that came in the form of the shining stars pattern from Lynne Goldsworthy from todays quilter. I didnt have enough fabric for the churn dash border but just enough for the center hunters star.

I literally had trimmings left, there was one section where i had to sew two smaller bits of fabric together to make a bit big enough .... i love doing that though, using up all the fabric, scraps scare me, i dont like them very much, weird but thats just me.

My poor poor scoobs, was perishing in the cold doing his usual sterling husbands holding quilts action!

This will go to Project Linus.

Sailing boat quilt

I wrote about this more in my May Furtle post but i like to give all finish along finishes their own posts! This will head off to Project linus soon,  lovely bali pop quilt.

This was no 4 on my 2020Q2 FAL list

I was gifted a sooper luffly Bali pop by a very lovely chum, I wanted to make sure i got every last drop out of it so chose to make 2 quilts from it. This one is from the quiltroom (Pam and Nicky Lintott) 2 for 1 jelly rolls book, what a great way to use up left over jelly roll strips and charm squares! I will be making this one again thats for sure! It will head on its way to one of the charities i regularly support, either Project Linus or a siblings quilt, I need to work out how to get quilts to either of them in the current circumstances!
