May Reading and storygraph 2026

Red moth narrated by Stephen Pacey on Audible by Sam Eastland
I love listening to this series in quick succession. You really get a feel for the friendship of Pekkala and Kirov. This book was made really poignant by the story of Stepanov. I love the memories of the time of the Tsar 5 🌟
Monkey and tiger by Robert Van Gulik
2 shorter tales from Judge Dee, just perfect 5 🌟
Five go off to camp by Enid Blyton
I think this was one of my favourite Famous Five stories growing up. There is less of Uncle Quentin which is nice and Mr Luffy is good fun. Also less racism than in some of the stories. Still of its time in regard to attitudes but a cracking story none the less 5 🌟
Cleopatras dagger by Carole Lawrence
Just not for me DNF
Many rivers to cross by Peter Robinson
Just not for me DNF
Murder under moonlight by Delphine Woods
Absolute cracker of a gothic novel. Brilliantly executed dual time narratives. A complex but likeable heroine. Cracking twist at the end 4.5 🌟
The enchanted wood by Enid Blyton
I think this is one of the best series Enid Blyton ever wrote. Magical characters and the faraway tree is delightful 5 🌟
She by Pete Brassett
I was really unsure about this one but it did keep me reading it. Nice and short too otherwise I might have DNFd it. It did have humour but a lot of it was misogynistic, also the Italian/English accent 🀦‍♀️🀦‍♀️ dreadful. But I kept reading it🀷 The ending felt rushed and confusing and there was a WHAT???? moment, its difficult to describe without spoilers. I genuinely dont know whether I liked this or not? 3.25 🌟
The lightening thief (Percy Jackson) by Rick Riordan
Absolute cracker of a book. Fantastic hero and friends. Great story never flags despite is length 5 🌟
The sleepwalker, Nosferatu conspiracy by Brian James Gage
Just not for me DNF
The peacekeeper by BL Blanchard
Just not for me DNF
Surgeons Hall by ES Thomson
Another fabulous addition to the series. Beautifully written an enthralling mystery written with great authenticity and research. Quite gory in places 5 🌟
Hunted in Hokkaido by SJ Cullen
Another fantastic addition to the series. I love seeing the friendship between Hunter and Higashi morph and change as the story unfolds. Two very different characters. The mystery twists and turns with the claustrophobic atmosphere of the snowed in hotel adding to the tension. Fascinating to learn more about the Ainu culture as well. A gripping read! 4.5 πŸŒŸ
Strings of murder by Oscar de la Muriel
I was a bit unsure about this story for about the first quarter. The relationship between the two MCs felt odd and inauthentic. But then they both grew on me. The mystery itself is good and intriguing. Will follow up the series. 3.75 🌟
Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club narrated by Ian Carmichael on Audible by Dorothy L Sayers
I think this is one of my favourite Wimsey stories. I love the ending 5 🌟
Sour moon by Melissa Peterson Lewis
Really enjoyed this addition to the series. There were bits in the beginning when I wondered if I'd forgotten things from the first book, a recap of shorts might have helped but overall very enjoyable 4 🌟
The beast of Cabin X by Karsten Knight
I'm a fan of this series but this wasn't the best one I've read. It's scary enough but the ending is a bit unsatisfactory and it feels rushed overall 3.5 🌟
Lord Peter views the body narrated by Ian Carmichael on Audible by Dorothy L Sayers
Ive always thought the short stories were a bit hit and miss, this confirms it, still enjoyable 4 🌟
Five get into trouble by Enid Blyton
Very enjoyable romp but oh my a lot of the attitudes very dated plus veiled religious slurs. A book of its time 4 🌟
Haunted monastery by Robert Van Gulik
I think this is one of my favourites of the series. Short but very satisfying 5 🌟
He is watching you by Charlie Gallagher
Just didn't grab me DNF
The mystery at Ebey's landing by Eldritch Black
These are formulaic but fun 4 🌟
Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters by Rick Riordan
Fantastic addition to the series, love Tyson. Just great fun 5 🌟
Gentlemen and players by Joanne Harris
I do love a dual timeline and this does not disappoint in that respect. However I preferred the story of the older timeline and got a bit bored with the current day story. But Joanne Harris writes so well it kept me engaged enough to finish it and what an ending 3.75 🌟
The silent house of sleep by Allan Gaw
Incredible story. Beautifully written and i love the dual timeline it works really well. Quite gory in places but never gratuitously. A gem 5🌟
Welcome to deadhouse, Goosebumps by R.L. Stine
Loved it, just the right amount of scary 4.5 🌟
Space force by Charles Chiltern  on BBC Sounds
This was pure nostalgia for me, classic sci fi from the BBC. Some hints of misogyny reflects the attitudes prevailing at the time. But still very enjoyable 4.5 🌟
The nightmare library by Karsten Knight
I was disappointed in the previous one in the series but felt this was better. Nicely scary 🌟
Time tub travellers and the silk thief by Claire Linney
Just fantastic story, great adventure with brilliant historical detail 5 🌟
Cats paws and curses by Nancy Warren
Nancy Warren really knows how to write a great short story. Really packs a punch in a short space, lovely
Crossing the lines by Nancy Warren
Great introduction to the series, Nancy Warren writes great short stories 4 🌟
The Castle by Rachel McLean
It was ok 3.5 🌟
I've added another new label, its a new genre- Gothic. I do love a nice gothic story and have recently returned to Delphine Woods. So it should be added to my genres.
Also added Arc as a label. I'll put it under the source graph, I dont do many ARCs but I do enough to warrant its own label 😊
So what do the charts say?
I've reread a lot this month which is not surprising. Nice to see BBC sounds in there again
So no stand alones this month?  Might need to check that?
Little Sheila has had a good month! Police procedural is not a favourite genre just nowlocation is as expected Thats a good average rating

All in all a very good month!

Cherry blossom sashiko

I bought this kit over a year ago from Japan crafts, at the time I never knew if or when I would be able to make it. Turns out that is now!

I wanted to use my Miffy needle minder it's just too cute

The threads are silk and jusy wonderful to work with

And here is the finished piece! I love it so much this was a joy to stitch
