New York beauty

Another finish! No 1 from this years FAL Q4 list I started this well over a year ago at the Thistle Patch retreat organised by Katy Cameron. These were some patterns we got at the retreat. I really enjoyed making them using up my Zhandra Rhodes fabric but i want do make a whole New York beauty with some other fabrics to thought I would just leave this one here and make a double sided mini.

This is four table runners ...

Obviously this is not four table runners! It is actually four finishes combined from my FAL Q4 proposed finishes numbers 7,8,9,10 to be precise. Well i was going to make four table runners but then when i got down to it, i had this gorgeous pink paisley pattern fabric that went so well with the charm packs. But i couldnt use it up in just one table runner, so i thought and i thunk and then came up with this! I also needed something bright and cheery to keep my spirits up and boy did this one do the trick! So i dont know if its elgible as it is changed so much from the origianl proposal but hey its the taking part that counts! And this will go to siblings together which makes me happy.

Jenny Haynes, Pappersaxsten quilt top

OK, i may have gone at Q4 with a vengeance! Yep another finish from the FAL Q4 list number 2 to be precise. This was from the workshop the EMQG ladies did with the rather lovely Jenny Haynes @pappersaxsten i chose to make the sunflower cot quilt

I had quite a bit of Heather Ross fabrics left over from a baby quilt i made earlier this year, so i threw in some sheep and unicorn greys for the center.

Those wee dancing ballerinas are ace arent they!

Annnnnnnd just enough IKEA pink polka dot for the back and binding.

Twisted snowball with Zen chic True Blue

Q4 has been pretty epic! Another finish from my list!! Number 12 to be precise, it was a last minute addition but i got cracking with this at the Thistle Patch retreat. It was such a quick and easy pattern from Pam and Nicky Lintott, snowball with a twist. I so wanted to use up my zen chic True blue layer cake, i adore the effect. Its been really really grim trying to get pictures in the grey Scottish winter so this is the best i could do!

I used up some meterage of camper van fabric, fun and cheerful. This one will either go to Social Bite quitl drive by Jo Avery or Project Linus.

Using up precious scraps

It's done!! Number four on my proposed finishes for Q4 I had some quite substantial scraps left from my Petra Prins quilt. There was a sweet cross pattern from a schnibbles pattern book and hey presto we have a sweet wee quilt.

I even backed it with Liberty thanks to my huge stash of cheap seconds! I like it.

A month in the country BOM

Oh the force has been strong with this quilter in Q4! Finish of number 11 on my Q4 list this has been a year in the making. The month in the country BOM from Todays Quilter by the rather talented Jo Avery (shes a chum you know :-) i get hugs :-) ) I loved making this, i had a load of animal themed fat quarters, sadly the fair trade fabric shop closed down, i got loads in their sale. It did feature applique which im not terribly great at any more with my stiff wonky old fingers. I just machine appliqued what i could. I do love it, nice and bright. Here is some work in progress:

And here is the finished quilt! Please note that the block second row far left is four small snowflakes. They are waaaaaaaay smaller than they should be as i forgot the “enlarge by 200%”instruction! 

First finish! FAL Q4

You know that thing when you are scrolling through your photos and you realise you did your first finish of Q4 and hadnt noticed!!! Yup - that.

 

No.3 on my list for Q4 was to make a mini sewing machine in liberty, i did this as my entry for the mini competition at the last Gartmore retreat.

And we are out of the starters blocks and raring to got for Q4!! Q4eh? Blimey 2017 you are fair ramping on. This time I will remember to number my list! Make it easier ...  Number 1 Farmers wife, I am way further ahead than I thought, almost halfway! No excuse now, keep chipping away at it

Number 2

I had just the most fabulous time at a workshop by Jenny Haynes - @pappersaxsten learning curves, the blocks are made just need to be put together for a linus quilt

Number 3

I made a mini one of these for the stichgathering postcard swap, loved it so much i want to make a mini one for myself in Liberty.

Number 4

These are left over from the Petra Prins quilt I made last quarter I think they would look fab in this charm square pattern and I think I have enough fabric for it too!

Number 5

I was charmed into buying a fabric marbling kit at the knitting and stitching show this year. This is the sample the man let me keep. I so want to make a flying geese lap quilt like the one he had on display, I have done most of the prep to marble the fabric, just need to find the time to get down to it!

 Sligthly more ambitous is finishing off this mahoosive liberty medallion quilt .... i have a few retreats coming up so you never know!!!!

Number 7

I seem to have aquired a rather unhealthy amount of charm packs .... Some of these are over three years old! I will not buy any new ones till I clear out some old ones, this will make a nice little lap quilt.

My local church is always looking for sale items so these next charm packs will become table runners for them

Right now this is also ambitious but hey in for a penny ... i have done all the blocks from the todays quilter BOM with Jo Avery, now to put them together possibly for siblings together?

Another FAL2017Q3 finish!

Oh my giddy aunt! Another finish????? Yep this is number 3 from my list of proposed finishes for Q3

I dont really do improv or wonky so this is my best effort! I had these batiks left over and really loved them so wanted to use them to  make a mosaic type block or quilt. I wanted to remind myself of our holiday in Barcelona and all of the Gaudi gorgeousness!

So then the guild proposed an improv mini challenge and this was born. The pattern is Mod mosaic quilt blocks by Elizabeth Hartman. This is about as wonky as this very linear librarian can get :-)

 

Zippy tray - another FALQ3 finish!

Whoop whoop! Another finish from my FAL Q3 proposed finishes number 2 in fact! I have had the zippy tray pattern by Aneela Hoey for ages and always wanted to try it but never got round to it. I also had some of this William and Kate wedding fabric left over, i bought it because it was pretty not because i have an huge Royalist leanings! But i have a lovely chum who is a huge Royal family fan, she already has a table runner in this fabric but its her birthday and i wanted to use up the last of it for her present. I loved the pattern, i got a bit confused at one bit but stopped and read every word, that usually helps! Love it but had no idea it was so huge!!!

Sew together bags

First tick off the Q3 FAL list!! Number 6 a sewtogether bag made with leftover Japanese fabric scraps. I love making sewtogether bags. 

I love making them so much I made two! I have a sooper luffly chum who does so much for charity, free motion quilting for Grenfell quilts, linus quilts. She broke my heart at the Zen chic class we did together when she looked at everyone setting up their tables and said wistfully that she never made small things or did swaps so she didn't have a sewtogether bag.

She does now though!! And she loved it, Liberty no less 😊😊

Bother its sideways ... Anyhow, I have the pattern for the Aneela Hoey zip up tray, I even made a special trip to get the right zips! I have this left over William and Kate wedding fabric and a Royal loving chum who would love a zip up tray, lets make it so.

2nd greek cross quilt

Phew! I didn't think I would get this one ticked off my FAL Q2 list but I did! I didn't stress about the quilting just straight squiggly across and down.
I had been given enough of these blocks from the lovely ladies of the siblings together quilt bee to make a second quilt top, I just needed a few more blocks to complete it. After raiding my stash of blues I got it finished ....ermmmm 10 minutes ago!

Petra prins Dutch quilt

Another quite massive tick off the FAL Q2 list!! When we had a trip to Amsterdam last year I had a trip to the Petra Prins shop. I have always loved her reproduction dutch fabric. The yellows and purples and dusky pinks just sing to me!

I wanted to make a quilt from one of her books, unfortunately I developed joint problems and was slightly daunted by the gazillion and one HSTs ..... plus all the rotary cutting.

Never fear, the fiskars rotary cutter guillotine thingy is perfect as is the clingy thing, clearly perfect angles. I only had to trim about 2 out of every dozen triangles I made and I think that was because I hadn't been too accurate in the initial cutting - sorted!

The original center of the quilt was hand appliqued, well that is out for me, my shonky old joints couldn't cope so I found this foundation paper pieced pattern by Lynne Goldsworthy, perfect!

I took it up to a quilting retreat up in Cullen and got cracking, the finished quilt is on its way to siblings together.
