January Cinema 2023

For January I decided to binge some dystopian Sci fi! It didn't quite go to plan but mostly 😊Quatermass experiment
Ooohhhh the big alien blob! A warning to future humanity ... a solid 7/10
Robin Hood
Felt in need of some comfort viewing a bit of swashbuckling 🤣 has to be 10/10

Pale blue eye

A solid 7/10 For this one, I'm trying to work through my wish list etc and this was on it. I love anything with Toby Jones and he didn't fail, Christian Bale was good too, story was just a bit leaden.
Awwww bit of comfort watching! Hurt my back and leg so sat on the sofa watching Kung Fo Panda 3, it's considered the least of the king fu Panda films but I think it holds its own. Made me smile anyway! A firm 8/10
I had deemed January "dystopian Sci Fi" month for films. So I thought I had better end with a classic "Soylent green" I read the book it was based on "make room make room" th film takes huge liberties with the plot and does insert some eye watering 70s misogyny which wasn't in the book but the film is still a classic if you can look beyond the flaws. I also do not like Charlton Heston either his political views or as an actor (over rated ...) but for me this film belongs to Edward G Robinson, his last performance and its a belter. So for him and him alone this gets 9/10

January furtle

January got off to a great start with a lovely sewing day at Killearn. What beautiful skies! And a fab day of sewing chatting and putting the world to rights.

we also spent a lovely few days looking after this wee chap! Rocky, a lovely cretan hound, a super wee soul who was no problem to look after.

So! what has been going on crafting wise? I kicked off with this friendship postcard for the Glasgow Modern Quilt guild, my partner was Carol Wilkie a dear chum so I loved making this for her. The mini balloons are from the Sarah Ashford pattern, I love any chance to make these they are super fun!

I took fettling the finishes very seriously! I have been trying to line things up in order. I have had these charm packs burning a hole in my stash for a while so they were next up!

We have been getting out and about more with the weather getting better, had a visit to this mysterious blue pool.
use 136 for wonderclips! keeping your annoying fringe out of your face 🤣
I signed up to the most recent quiet play BOM - Under the sea. I have had a bit of a disaster with the backing fabric so needed a plan B, am going to use the hungarian blue fabric I have in my stash, love these anchors!
Dear Jane continues slowly ....... but its going in the right direction at least.
I am now allllllll about the SALs 🤣 this is my most recent block in the Riley Blake challenge, Im using all batiks, quite like the effect.

OMG loooooook at my tin!!!!!! How adorable is this!!!! I saw a chum in Australian post about this on insta, I tracked it down and its from a UK company - Grandma Wilds. So when I saw they had it back in stock I had to buy it.
I think I am going to do a tin inventory, and also I may have too much time on my hands!
A wall of fair isle! how lovely, a great visit to The Dovecot for the exhibition From Chanel to Westwood
Aww and here he is! My scoobs doing what he does best 😊 a bumper crop from the charm packs! And look at the bear backing!!! OMG just the best a duvet cover from IKEA, Must get some more.

oh and we just squeaked in to see Turner in January, this is my favourite.
And I saw these lovely chaps on the way home - bonus!
Ahhhhhhhh this is a bit of a sad tale still to be resolved .... I bought seven meters of blue Lawn fabric for the background for the under the sea BOM, I originally wanted to do it in liberty.
As per instructions I pre washed at 40 degrees ..... it ran .... a lot ..... Washed again more colour catchers, still ran. Contacted shop they said try again, I did, probably 7 or 8 times 3 colour catchers each time. These are the colour catchers. I am now in dispute with the shop, they have offered 20 percent refund, I said no I need full refund, this fabric is un usable. They say i am the only one to have this problem ... Thats not the point I have this problem and need it fixed! so it rages on, it is now in the hands of paypal, maybe feb furtle will have an update!

This is what I am working on this weekend! I got a bundle of Melody Miller playtime ages ago to make a charity quilt. I knew early on I wanted to do the Lucy Engles pattern - One more cup of coffee with it. It reached the top of the list so here we are! wont be done for January but hey february is another matter!

It's been pressed trimmed almost there!
I deemed January "dystopian Sci fi" film month. Not sure what theme (if any?) I'll choose for feb, Soylent green is in my top 20 of all time films, so it felt right to have it as my last film for January. I'm very conflicted about this one for many reasons (eye watering 70s misogyny....) but its still a classic and worth it to see Edward G Robinsons last (and fantastic) performance.
See you next month!

Turner in January

Oh I adore the Turner in January exhibition. This happens every January in Edinburgh. The watercolours are too fragile to go on display permanently so only come out once a year.
I went with my chum Andy. We went for lunch first , sweet potato gnocchi, fantastic.
It still seems slightly surreal getting out and about again but it's lovely.

Bell Rock lighthouse

Durham

The above ones are from Abbotsford, Turner and Scott were great chums, who knew!
The above is my hands down favourite, lightening at the Doges Palace in Venice
The rialto bridge, another favourite.
And to top it off I saw these lovely chums on the way home, pretty perfect way to end the day!

First finishes of 2023!

Well!!First finishes of 2023! I had 3 charm packs ti wanted to use up so here they are these will all go to Linus. Above is Picking Petals quilt by Carried away quilting. I used a charm pack from Leicin called Memoire a Paris.
Above is the Marian Barn quilt by Fresh dew drops. I used a Zen Chic charm pack for this one.
Above is the Moda Love pattern, I've already made this in a layer cake size. I used a charm pack called Effies Garden for this one.

So how cute is the backing??? Its an IKEA duvet cover, this was the pillow case which came with it. Love it will need to buy more!

Knitwear Chanel to Westwood

a wall of Fair Isle, how gorgeous was that! Me and two chums visited the exhibition at the Dovecot studios 'knitwear, Chanel to Westwood at the weekend. I am still a bit rabbit in the headlights when going out and about but hey this was worth it! Fantastic exhibition.
There was a section on Cocktail sweaters, OMG I know want to knit a cocktail sweater, these were beautiful.

I dont know if you can see the knitting book on the floor in the picture below, Its the Lady Isobel Barnett book of knitted patterns. I adored Lady Isoble Barnett when I was younger, she was the epitome of chic. Such a sad story. I want to hunt this book down and knit one.

Aww Lovely to fnish with the amazing Bill Gibb and Kaffe Fassett. Bill Gibb comes from my home town, Kaffe Fassett mentions visiting there in his book dreaming in Colour.

I stayed overnight in Edinburgh as I was going out in the evening to celebrate a chums birthday, I know you go no where for 3 years then you are all over the place! Scoobs was away camping so I went into Marks and Spencer and got some Bao buns for our dinner! All in all a lovely weekend!
