Hexies

I went through a phase of making hexies, I couldn’t be faffed sewing them all together so used up some solids (I hate solids , sorry but I do!) and made this wee one, cute!

Original farmers

Oh this was a challenge but such fun in the end.

I did love making this so much, I will admit that the block with the 16 Y seams almost broke me 😂😂 but hey I learned so much with this quilt, and coming back and looking at it reminds me what an achievement it was. It looks so much brighter than I remember too. I quilted it myself on a long arm at beechwood, this was the first time I used a commercial long arm, great fun! I showe it at the stitch gathering that year.

Graduation

1st July 2014, such a happy happy day. I graduated from the PG Cert in education from QMU, made all the more special as I was a member of court and graduated from the stage. As ever my lovely Scoobs was by my side, always. I bought the dress in Brighton, I remember texting  my lovely chum Jacky and saying “it costs over 150 quid but makes me feel like Gina Lollabrigida” she texted back saying, ‘why are you wasting time texting me, go buy it!!!”

My lovely chum David came along too , here he is standing by the tree for life which was planted for him on his retirement.

My colleague Laurie also graduated on this day, here we are with the Student Union president and chum, Fergus.

Crafty BOM stichery dickory dock

I am really loving recreating these blog posts which I lost, I think I loosing them was a good thing, now I can revisit happy memories of the past.

This was a crafty block of the month from 2013 which I managed to finish in 2014. I did it quilt as you go, I think at that point I was hopeful of honing my fmq technique. It wasn’t to be, me and fmq were not to be!
Amy Gibson of stichery dickory dock was the tutor, I loved her style and she picked some great skill builder blocks for us. Looking back I can see how much I learned from this class and it was all free too!
For the back of the qayg blocks I used up left over fabrics, fat quarters etc, all in all a great fun and educational quilt to make! I think it went to siblings together.

APQ quilt

Oh I loved this one! Loved making it, can’t remember the title but it was a low volume quilt. Lots of piecing but I loved the options it gave me for refining the process! I used up loads of lovely vintage fqs, some very happy memories here.

Mardi Gras quilt

Oooohhh now this one brings back memories! All good ones, Mardi Gras quilt, pattern by Carol Munro

I used to do lots of classes at Seattle quilt company up in Aberdeen. It was a great quilt shop, lovely class space, I would go up on a Friday night, have a blast out on the town with chums then me and Irene would rock up hungover to the quilt class 😂😂 I was a bit scared about doing curves but Carol is a fab teacher and it was a skoosh as we say!!! Lots of happy memories in this one.
