Barcelona the one where I went on a cable car

For people of my era, you can only hear the soaring tones of Freddie Mercury when someone says Barcelona! Aww Freddie, such a loss.
A yahoo our holiday plans have been a bit disrupted by Mr Budsmams hike across Iceland later this year. So we were later in going on our spring break.
But it was well worth the wait!! Oh my goodness how amazing is Barcelona! Right I'm going to keep this text light, but a favourite visit was to Monjuic, a hill fort. You could walk up there, or you could take the furnicular railway most of the way, or if you suffer from vertigo like me you could take the cable car ..... I am always trying to challenge my vertigo .... What an eejit!

Another finish!!

And I remembered to take a pic this time!! :-) it was the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt for 2016. Alietare, how could I not do this one it was inspired by Florence!! So this is the second ticked off the Q2 list

One of our staff is a foster mother, she asked me if I had any quilts for some distressed children she was fostering, well of course I do!
I rushed this plus one other into work for her and managed to get a picture in our archive before handing it over.

FAL 2016 Q2 first finish!!

Yea!! My first finish!!
Guess which numpty didn't get a picture of it before it was donated ..... Flippity flip!!
It was the Reveille quilt top, I rolled it over from my Q1 list to my Q2 list! Then stoopid numpty that I am I got so excited that I had found a good home for it it forgot to take a pic.

I wanted to donate it to the weaving Musical threads blanket appeal but totes forgot to take a pic of the finished article .... Does that disqualify me? Hey ho if it does then that's no biggie. It's gone to a good home.

Daft auld librarian

I have just been called a woose by a very senior member of staff :-) why? Because I cried at the leaving lunch for our fourth year undergraduates.
Work can cause so much stress but these guys are the reason it causes so much joy. I will miss each and every one of them.
See that below? That's this daft auld librarian greetin while they clapped me, they read out every member of support staff and applauded them.

They gave us all individual certificates and little trophies! Mine has gone into my little corner of happiness at work to remind me of what is really important.

And just when I thought it was safe to put the hankies away one of the students asked to see me, I thought she had a referencing question!! No she had made me some fabulous choux pastries and an amazing handmade card ..... Queue the waterworks again!!

Taking my own advice

 A good few years ago I went to a patchwork class, I sat across from a nice young lady but she was obviously a beginner.

Nowt wrong with that though! The entire morning she constantly looked at what everyone else was doing and fretting. Oh you've done so many more blocks than me, oh your blocks are better than mine, oh my goodness that lady is nearly finished ...... When she carried on in this vein in the afternoon I gently said to her that "if you spend less time fretting about what everyone else is up to and more time on your own work you might get more done?" I did say it gently, cos she was working herself up into a tiz.

Flash forward to now. I need to stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and thinking and just concentrate on myself.

It doesn't matter if people don't like me, that's life get on with it.

I can't tie myself in knots trying to be what I think other people want me to be.

I am just me.

A weekend up at my mams and being in my favourite place of all time, Broch beach, is just the fair dab as we say up here.

 

 

FAL 2016 Q2

........ Well Q1 was a spectacular fail! I got no finishes and didn't even make the linky party .....
Bad budsmam. Why? Ach just my normal nervous breakdown at worky stuff! Plus sore shoulder plus lurgy, poor poor budsmam!
Never mind we are moving with a purpose and have a wee dram of drambuie to motivate us :-)

So, I'm rolling over - EVERYTHING!!

I want to use up my Liberty stash (don't judge me ...) in the medallion quilt by Susan Briscoe which was in the Today's Quilter supplement.

Sew together bag for my lovely friend Marshall
Awww bless, Marshall phoned me and I almost cried at hearing a friendly voice. She is so sweet and bought me these fabrics last year, she deserves a sew together bag.

Morrocan quilt
I have this daft idea of doing a quilt for every holiday I go on .... Well holiday abroad that is, I can't see me making a Skegness quilt, but you never know! I got these fabrics in America last year. They remind me so much of the tiles and vibrant colours and richness of our Morrocan holidays. Of course I have to choose a pattern from the Kaffe fassett quilts in Morocco book!

Civil war quilt
Right again another holiday quilt! This time to remind me of America and my fab trip there last year. This one is scheduled in for our annual quilt retreat to Cullen.

Nooooo it's not enough! ffs how could I forget my lonestar quilt? I am loving this baby!

Why dont you?

If you are of my generation *resists urge to do the who impersonation* you may remember a rather irritating (to me anyway) programme called "why don't you" the tag line was why don't you .... Switch off your television sand go and do something less boring instead .... And if you do remember the programme you will now have the very irritating theme tune rumbling about in your head! Sorry!

I saw a conversation on Instagram this week and they people involved both said how much they missed blogging, now I think I know what they mean, they mean the days before Instagram when blogs and Flickr ruled the crafting world.

But part of me thought 'why don't you?' I mean why don't you just blog? And then I thought well why don't I? I don't blog s lot but its cathartic.

So what does all this rambling mean? Not sure, but I'm going to try and get things down on here more often.

First up a rather dodgy (well all my pictures are dodgy ...) shot of the block of the month we are doing at the muckhart quilt group. We are following along the gen X BOM from a few years ago, sisters ten by Anne Marie Chainey. I've got her new book, it's fab.

I decided to do mine in batiks, yep not tres moderne but what the hey. I was never on trend!I am a wee bit distressed at the mo, my recent haircut seems to have killed my curls!! Come back curls I miss yoo!

On a happier note, ma wee pal Rocco came to stay for a long weekend, as you can see he quickly led me astray .... Naughty Rocco :-)
