I missed one!!!

How could I miss a finish! I am going to try and get this one blogged before the link up ends.  This was finish no. 9 on my FAL Q2 list.
I think I probably forgot to blog about this one because I have to say it was not the best experience I have had with donating a quilt to charity  .... and that saddens me.
I was a linus co-ordinator for a few years and loved doing that. I still donate to Linus and love doing that. Siblings together and Alice Caroline get most of my other quilts with Siblings being hands down my favourite experience.
I found a new group and they were on facebook ... now I did think about this because I have to say I am not a huge fan of facebook, instagram is my hood :-) but hey the charity sounded well worth it.
So! I duly went on registered, answered all questions and got admitted. Their rules regarding sizing were quite convoluted (well to me anyway) and there were dire warnings all over about adhering to the sizing .... yup i know I should have backed out there and then, no disrespect but if you need to make it soooooo complex then maybe its not for me.
I had a layer cake which was pretty, I wanted to use the disappearing nine patch so put the two together and this is what i came up with!!!

Purty huh?? yup I mean the quilt not the husband :-) but he is rather handsome too.
To me it did  fall within the guidelines BUT its square not rectangular ... I posted it on the facebook site and within half an hour the admin was messaging me saying "pretty quilt, what are the exact dimensions" so I told her.
What I got back was:
"hmmmmmmmm its not the correct size but Im sure since it is pretty we can find a home for it"
Now colour me sensitive but I thought "hey you know what, dont let me foist my incorrectly sized (but pretty  and quilted and bound which you have been screaming out for) quilt on you.
Well I didnt think that straight away It was only after she kept commenting on my facebook post, not too rudely but when ever anyone posted a comment about it she would be RIGHT in there commenting "yes but please check the sizing guidelines in the group files". Thats when I thought, "sod it, ill give it to Siblings" I came off group, blocked the admin and gave to siblings, all I got from them was a lovely lovely thank you from Nicky and a whole lot of loving from everyone else.
Lesson learned. Im sticking to IG from now on, facebook can do one.
Hmm Im aware that while writing this I must be sounding really mean. Maybees aye, maybees naw!!!
I do hope the original charity get all the quilts they want, I really do though, it was a great cause.
Ill finish that off there.

Lets all run away to the Fairy Tale Castle

Irene and I always wanted to run away to the circus, when the going gets tough and work and the menopause are kicking your butt then it always seemed like a good idea!
But now we want to run away to the Fairy Tale Castle, Jacky is going to join us and you are all welcome too!
So this was number 8 on my Q2 FAL list I won the pattern in the FAL from Blossom Heart quilts, a lovely fairy tale castle and the size of it seemed ideal for the Alice Caroline SOS quilts, she wants 54x90 max, a very rectangular quilt so this tall thin pattern is ideal.
The backing is lawn from stand fast and barracks, the lovely Pam got this for me, it's sweetie wrappers 😊

Emmaline retreat bags

And its another finish!!! im racking them up this quarter! This was no 15 from my Q2 list
Now its no secret that i love an Emmaline retreat bag and i was fed up of boring storage for my WIPs (and there are sooooo many of those)
So I decided to knock up a few more Emmaline retreat bags to store them in.
I used my favourite ever Japanese fabric for the first.

I had enough Tula Pink Elizabeth fabric for one half of a bag, so i used the bow fabric for the other half.

For the final one i used up the last of my botanics fabric i bought at festival of quilts either last year or the year before.
They are all now happily stuffed with WIPs :-)

2019 FAL Q2 another finish!!!

Well i wasn't expecting this to appear so soon on my FAL finishes! it was no.16 on my FAL list I had thought to make an Aneela Hoey booklet pouch for my pappersaxten templates. I seem to have quite a collection of them! My original thought was to make it from selvedges but i realised that would take far too long, the reason for the hurry was that I had also rashly offered to make Jenny Haynes (Pappersaxten) a pouch too. I knew she loved Lucy Engels fabric and i happen to have a rather substantial back catalogue of Lucys fabric! Being paid in templates was a bonus!
So here is my pouch, i had to adjust the pattern to make it fit the templates, I also didn't use vinyl for the front of the pockets, i thought the templates might poke through.
So, i used up some long hoarded Anna Maria Horner for the outside and most of the inside too!

I was SO nervous about making the one for Jenny, she is so lovely and kind but i just put myself under too much pressure. I had enough of the black and the white bees for the outside and inside cover. The pockets were a mixture of bees and some of Lucys older prints.

FAL 2019 Q2 - first finish!

Well 13 isnt unlucky for me! My first finish for Q2 is no.13 on my list This was started at a beginners knitting class at Ginger Twist studios in Edinburgh. Fab class, made even better as my lovely chum Sheena was there too.

It got held up a bit because of shoulder issues but i got there in the end and i now know how to use circular needles!

No.3 Paper Clip - Lucy Engels
I want to make Lucy's latest pattern in Japanese fabrics! i may have quite a bit of Japanese fabric ...

No.4 One more Cup of Coffee - Lucy Engels
aww man i have been collecting Lucys fabric since she started printing. I adore her fabric and she is from the same area as me to boot and a sooper luffly person as well :-) I have her pattern, i have the templates from Jenny Haynes. i just need to make it so.

No.5 Liberty Lone star
I commited to making 2 Alice Caroline SOS quilts this year. Its not like i dont have much liberty ...

 No.6 Liberty scrappy trip
See No 5!

No.7 Jo Avery Tea for 2
I love a Jo Avery pattern! I collected all of these patterns from Today's Quilter. I wanted to do it in bold fabrics, inspiration hit when i thought about using Japanese metallic and a bold green as the back ground and the backing, the vase fabric! got it at FOQ last year.
No.8 Liberty Fairy Tale Castle
This is very fitting for the FAL, i won this pattern in the final quarter of 2018, Fairy Tale Castle by Blossom Heart Quilts. Ill make it in Liberty for this years Alice Caroline SOS
I now have two of the six blocks i need for this quilt !

No. 9 - Disappearing nine patch
I bought this layer cake in a destash, wasnt quite sure what to do with it but then realised i have never made a disappearing 9 patch quilt. Now that sounds like a plan!

No.10 Michael Powell cross stitch
When a chum found out how much i love Michael Powell designs she unearthed a x stitch of his she had never got round to finishing. its lovely pattern, venetian windows.
No.11 Michael Powell bookmark
I always buy a bookmark from Michael Powell at the FOQ, this might be the last one i buy because im all Kindle now but i use them for my patchwork books.
No. 12 Tresna scarf
Woot woot! i have started knitting! I have the wool I have the pattern, just now need to fit in another 24 hours in the day.
No. 13 Ridge cowl
well this is my first new knitting project from my beginners knitting class, had a blast, loved it.
No.14 Book nerd quilt
ARRRRRK, i was going to stop above but i cant have 13 on the list .... anyhow i was intending to do this pattern this year. I think i will make it my 'big scraps' pattern. There will be a few big scraps coming from some of the quilts above which will be perfect for this.

No.15 Emmaline retreat bags
I seem to have developed a habit for these ..... i sent off for more frames .... so i need to make three, as they are quick to whip up i will count all three as one finish :-)

No 16. Selvedge booklet pouch
Well its all the fault of Lucy Engels! buying all her patterns and the Jenny Haynes templates which go with them! i now need storage for my growing collection of Jenny Hanyes templates so I am going to use up some of my Selvedge collection to make an Aneela Hooey booklet pouch.
