Cinema Oct 2022

One thing i did while i was counting down to retirement was to list ( I love a list) all the classic films I would watch when i retired. This was always first on my list, Red Beard, what a classic and very pertinent for retirement, Toshiro Mifune plays an older doctor who mentors a new doctor who comes to his practice. Very moving and just beautiful.
This is the notebook I wrote my list in 😊

I love Akiro Kurosawa, one of the all time greats. So I got a free trial for the BFI film player and binged!

Next up was Rashomon, I vividly remember watching this one as a teenager, the story where a murder is seen and re told from several different viewpoints was an eye opener to me. The realisation that there is very often no real truth and events are seen from very different perspectives, some objective some not so. Always be one of my favourites.

Yojimbo!!! What to say, the one which started it all, the inspiration for the Magnificent Seven. Perfect in every way.
Sanjuro, the follow up to Yojimbo, again just perfect!

The Hidden Fortress, did you know that George Lucas drew heavily on this for Star Wars? Well he did!

So farewell to Toshiro Mifune for now, I will be back!

Next up to get the most use out of the BFI free trial is the Cabinet of Dr Caligari, just beautiful

So I was going to stick to wednesday afternoons but got a bit carried away, thats fine though! But on wednesday afternoon i watched The conversation with another of my favourites Gene Hackman, I totally forgot that a very young Harrison Ford was also in this!

Ah farewell BFI free trial! you were wonderful.
The monumental shit show which is British Politics drove me to Disney cartoons, I needed something strong and this just fit the bill 😂 Oh dollally indeed! Robin Hood, what a classic.

Next up was sleeping beauty, I do love this the colour in it was fantastic!

OK that was it for October, lets see what November brings.
