December furtle

 Last furtle of the year!

So what did we do this month? Well there was the sticky prod along ..... not that I needed any proding πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡
I aimed to get the temperature embroideries done ✔️ if proof were needed here is the final piece the label😊 main blog post about that is here

the solstice sampler done ✔️

and keep up to date with the sewcialites sew along ✔️
Here are the first 8 blocks, we dont get any more until January I think, I am doing the 6.5 inch version, with a scrappy grey background

Along with that I also got this chap done 😊😊 this was a panel from a sew hot scrap bag, I really wanted to make it up for linus so whipped it up pretty quick, its so sweet!

plus my wheel of the year, retirement is working out well for me!

Oh yes also this quilt for the guild challenge

Uneven log cabin, main blog post about that here
I did another floral big cat, the cheetah, love this chap

So thats three cats down, six to go, I am adoring making these.

Oh yes and this might be my last quilt of the year, again another last minute one .... I havent posted anywhere else about it, i dont really feel it is my story to tell. One of my chums (non quilty) was really ill this year, he is a lovely chap, really into heavy metal, cartoons etc and just one of the nicest persons you could meet.
He was in hospital for 6 months and only heard a few weeks back he might get out for christmas, and he did! He is having to learn to walk again so I thought "quilt to keep his legs warm!"
this was a very hasty photoshoot before scoobs went back to folks for christmas, so here it is! Mikeys quilt:

I dont know if you can see but it is all squares of Helen Steele fabric, I used lots of day of the dead skulls, octopi, hedgehogs, turtles etc. Mikey got it today and just loves it, I am so happy.

Oh yes and I started on a new quilt top πŸ˜‚
Seriously been cooped up inside with either rain or snow, it has really helped increase productivity!

This was from a momo Layer cake - Oh deer which was kindly gifted by a chum to make a charity quilt, its taken a few years but i think it may be the first finish of 2023!
Goodness me, December does seem to have been very productive! The weather has kept me indoors a lot so I suppose a surge of productivity was inevitable!
Oh well! I did actually manage to get it done !!!!! So last ever quilt of 2022 ta dah!

Thank you so much Mini Archie for another year or furtling, its a great way to connect and to keep a track of what is being and has been done. Looking forward to furtling in 2023!

Oh deer layer cake

Well! This is the last quilt of 2022. My lovely chum Kim gifted me a layer cake of Momo "oh deer" quite a few years ago! I wanted to preserve the gorgeous focal big prints but was u sure what to do with the rest.

I decided to make Pinwheels and sash them to the same size as the focal prints. I'm pretty chuffed with the result! This will go off to Siblings together.
I'm particularly chuffed with the backing loooooooook!
It's an ikea duvet cover, they are my go too backing, this I felt was very appropriate 😊
Well that was a very happy last quilt of 2022. Let's see what 2023 brings!

Little Linus quilt

I got a panel in a scrap bag from sewhot, perfect to whip up a little linus quilt with additional of 2 fat quarters 😊

Solstice sampler SAL

Goodness, so much to catch up on. This is my finished Alderwood Solstice Sampler, I would say fun but also quite challenging sew along from Alderwood studio, I hadnt heard about it till my chum Irene alerted me to this one, I learned a lot from this, it reminded me about the need for acccuracy when piecing and it was all round fun challening though, some quite simple looking blocks which really kicked my butt!

Cinema December 2022

This is going to be a belter of a month, first retired December- bring it on!
I'm still binging a free trial so next up is Evil under the sun, sublime cast, Maggie Smith again and of course Peter Ustinov as Poirot but oh my the racism 😬😬😬 I still love these films but oh my they were of their time.

Murder on the orient express, Finney was never my favourite Poirot but this was at least faithful to the story ....

I had a seven day free trial so binge watched a lot with it. The thin blue line, fab film precursor to Dixon of Dock green which was must view when I was young 😊 Dirk Bogarde playing the baddie, I adored Dirk Bogarde
Hobsons choice, utterly utterly sublime.john Mills was perfect in this, as was everyone to be honest. Charles Laughton was magnificent as was the actress who played Maggie.

Awww Raymond Massey! What a star, this is the Shape of things to come by Alexander Korda based on the HG Wells story, I thought it might be a nice Sci fi film to rewatch but blimey I had forgotten how prescient it is. A world.war followed by world qide pestilence, shortage of medicines and.foods, gas attacks and masks.which are sub par and not fit for purpose 😳 hmmmmmm even had a tin pot dictator beautifully played by Ralph Richardson
 All too close for comfort!

Quilt for Mikey

My mate Mikey was really really ill this year, really ill, we nearly lost him. He came through but spent 6 months in hospital. Just before christmas he heard he might get out in time for christmas day, soooooooo well he needs a quilt to keep him warm while he recuperates doesnt he!
He is a big heavy metal fan, loves animals and cartoons so a simple quilt of Helen Steele hand printed fabrics seemed in order, I knew he would like the day of the dead skulls so he had to have those plus hedgehogs, turtles and a whole host more!
There was no time or weather for a balcony shot so here is Scoobs improvising in the living room 😊 This will probably be my last quilt of 2022 and i cant think of a better one.

Awww how this fills my heart, this is an update as of December 2023, Mikey posted this on Facebook,  he said "Last of my wee few days of gratitude, this lovely quilt that was sent to me by Sheila. She send it to me when I got out of hospital. It had a wee personal message of encouragement written on it. I nearly cried the day I opened it. It was so thoughtful. I’ve never told her this but it sits next to me every day. It’s beautiful and reminds me of her. Sheila and I quickly hit it off when I joined QMU and we have been stepping buddies ever since. Thanks Sheila for your words of advice which you have sent and which I have taken with me and remember everyday"
